The Rainbow Mountain, or Vinicunca, is one of the most amazing landscapes in the Peruvian Andes. On a day tour, you can enjoy its vibrant colors and also explore the Red Valley, an area that complements the magic of Vinicunca. We are direct operators, which guarantees bilingual guides, modern transportation and meals included.
Tour details:
- Pick up at accommodation: Between 4:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. (or meeting point at our office in Cusco).
- End of the tour: Between 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. in Plaza Regocijo, Cusco.
- Reservations and departures: Daily departures; reservations accepted until 9:00 p.m. from the previous day.
- Group size: 14 to 18 people.
- Meals: Includes buffet breakfast and lunch, with options for special diets.
Cancellations:
- Full refund: With cancellation 24 hours before the tour.
- Partial refund: If you cancel the day before before 7:00 p.m. (50% refund).
- No refund: Cancellations after 7:00 p.m. from the previous day.

Day 1: CUSCO - CUSIPATA - RAINBOW MOUNTAIN - RED VALLEY - CUSCO
Rainbow Mountain Excursion Itinerary
- Pickup: Between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. at your hotel or at 5:00 a.m. in our office.
- Departure from Cusco: At 5:15 a.m., we leave for the town of Cusipata (2 hours).
- Breakfast in Cusipata: Stop to enjoy a local breakfast and rest before continuing.
- Transfer to the Entry Point: After breakfast, we continue for an hour by vehicle to the access to the Montaña de Colores (entrance fee 30 soles).
- Hike to Rainbow Mountain: We begin the 1.5-hour hike from 4700 m to the summit at 5100 m, with time for photos and panoramic views.
- Red Valley Option: You can visit the Red Valley (20 soles entrance) or return along the same trail (1-1.5 hours).
- Lunch in Cusipata: Buffet in Cusipata at 1:30 p.m.
- Return to Cusco: Estimated arrival between 4:30 and 5:00 p.m.

- Entrance fee to the Montaña de Colores: The entrance cost is 30 soles, collected by local communities and the government.

- Entrance fee to the Red Valley: The entrance costs 20 soles. Make sure you bring cash to cover this fee.
- Personal equipment: Personal equipment is not included, so be sure to bring everything you need for the hike.
- Gratuities: Gratuities for guides and staff are not included, but are always welcome.
Horse Rental at Rainbow Mountain
You can rent a horse at the checkpoint if you prefer not to walk. The cost to climb to the summit is 90-100 soles (25-30 USD), with a local guiding the horse. If you also want to descend on horseback, the additional cost is 40-60 soles. Prices may vary depending on demand, and it is recommended to negotiate politely.
Photos with Local Culture
You can take photos with the locals and their llamas or alpacas. A tip of 5 soles (2 USD) is common and helps the local community, creating a special memory of your trip.
